Munich Fabric Start
30 Years as an Industry Leader
For three decades, the trade show—which began in 1996 at Munich’s MOC with about 50 exhibitors—has brought together fabrics, materials, innovations, and future-oriented themes into a creative ecosystem that goes far beyond the traditional concept of a trade show.
Munich Fabric Start redefined the role of traditional textile trade shows early on. Designers, brands, manufacturers, technology partners, and decision-makers from across the entire value chain come together here. Formats such as Bluezone, Keyhouse, The Source, and ReSource exemplify the event’s interdisciplinary approach and regularly provide new impetus for the international fashion and textile world.
The trade show has always served as a barometer for the industry. “Sustainability, circularity, smart materials, and responsible supply chains were showcased here long before they reached the mass market. At the same time, the event has established itself as an important platform for collaboration and inspiration in the areas of design, product management, and buying for international fashion brands,” says Managing Director Florian Klinder.
Over the past 30 years, the trade show has played a key role in positioning European textile expertise on the international stage, making sustainable innovations market-ready, and connecting young talent with industry and commerce. Denim and sportswear cultures have also been repeatedly reinterpreted here. Italian fabric expertise, German engineering quality, international creativity, and global sourcing networks converge in Munich to form a platform for addressing the industry’s future challenges.
As it marks its 30th anniversary, the focus is firmly on the future: renewable materials, AI-driven product development, digital supply chains, and circular business models are already shaping the next generation of the industry. The past decades have shown that relevance arises where innovation, responsibility, and creativity converge—a commitment that Munich Fabric Start intends to uphold in the future as a key driving force in the fashion industry.
