Mantù
Beauty lies in the fit
At Mantù, everything starts with a clear credo: "A garment must make a woman more beautiful, otherwise it has failed in its purpose," says founder Angela Picozzi. The daughter of a Neapolitan tailor and a pattern maker, she founded Castor Srl in Castellucchio near Mantua in 2003; in 2008, this gave rise to the Mantù brand. A conversation about the perfect fit and her plans for the D-A-CH region.
"Fit is our core focus. Whether it's pants, jackets, or blazers—everything has to fit perfectly from the very first moment," explains Angela Piccozzi right at the start. Mantù develops cuts over months, tests proportions on real bodies, and constantly readjusts lines. "We are 70 women with very different shapes. We try everything ourselves. If a piece suits all of us, then it has the right balance."
This attention to detail is evident not least in the way the models move. "A well-placed shoulder, a finely positioned drape – these can change a figure without you even noticing," says Picozzi. Her father always talks about "little secrets," the hidden touches that make a garment look more natural. "We work until we find that lightness that you can't explain, but you feel immediately." The materials are also created in close collaboration with Italian weavers. "I love nuances that aren't loud, but have personality," she says. Even classic themes such as Shetland are reimagined – soft, light, modern.
In Italy, Mantù is exclusively available in boutiques at selected Belmond hotels—at Cipriani in Venice, in Portofino, and at other properties belonging to the group. "There we meet customers who intuitively understand quality." The brand also resonates internationally: even Queen Letizia has worn a Mantù dress.
For the D-A-CH region, Mantù relies on the sales agency Diekaufleute – Giorgio Occhipinti and Norbert Klauser. "Norbert has an exceptional sense of fashion and understands the German market like no other. He recognized our product immediately," says Picozzi. "With partners like this, you feel you're in good hands."
