The Spring/Summer 2027 menswear collection seeks reliability. A conversation with Gregor Langerspacher, Head of Design at Joop Menswear, about heritage, tailoring, and trusting one’s intuition.

What role does trust currently play in menswear?
Gregor Langerspacher, Head of Design at Joop Menswear:Trustis key. We’re living in very turbulent times, which makes customers seek reliability all the more. When they’ve had a good experience with a brand, it creates a positive feeling—one that makes them want to come back.
In the world of fashion, this is reflected in a return to heritage and tailoring. Why are traditional styles gaining importance right now?
Because they stand for durability. Today’s customers shop more thoughtfully and seek reliability—pieces that work and stand the test of time. Tailoring is a great example of this. For us, this theme is deeply rooted in our DNA, so we’re consistently embracing it for Spring/Summer 2027—for the occasion and beyond.
How can we reinterpret heritage codes without coming across as nostalgic?
On casual style and materiality. We draw on traditional qualities and reinterpret them. In this context, the mix of materials is key. This creates a fresh twist without losing any of the piece’s character. Our blazers are a prime example. Clean, flat-knit bodies are paired with ribbed knit sleeves or velour versions featuring knit elements. In our suit collection, we’re placing a strong emphasis on mix-and-match options in new micro-patterns, as well as an expanded color palette to complement our existing line.
Which three terms best capture the mood for Spring/Summer 2027?
Our main source of inspiration is Andalusia, so I’d say our style is Mediterranean, light, and full of joie de vivre.
One personal question to wrap things up: What do you rely on more today than you did in the past?
My intuition. As a designer, it’s essential to trust your inner voice.
