“Growth does not necessarily result from expansion”

“Growth does not necessarily result from expansion”
Humanoid is showing a special spirit of experimentation for Spring/Summer 2027. How is your focus?

Daan Berkhoff, co-owner of Humanoid: “Create the things you wish existed”—that’s what drives us. With playful shapes and versatile pieces, we celebrate deconstruction and the joy of experimentation. Our silhouettes, featuring rounded shoulders and curved hems, are inspired by the circle and combined with utility influences. The material takes center stage, featuring cotton in various weights and finishes—from feather-light to heavier twills with a vintage wash. This creates depth and texture.

In womenswear, the trend is shifting away from a cooler, minimalist style toward more femininity. Is there also more emotion involved?

Absolutely! We want to create pieces that feel intuitive, tactile, and emotionally appealing—using soft, natural fabrics that move with the body. There’s a quiet femininity in our approach to design: never too overt, but always present, with thoughtful details and a sense of lightness.

At Humanoid, you have a unique understanding of growth—could you explain that in more detail?

We have deliberately moved away from the notion that growth must necessarily result from constant expansion. Instead, we are seeing steady year-over-year growth of 30 percent by strengthening and deepening the partnerships that truly matter. Our core markets—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH), the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, and the U.S.—continue to show solid growth. We aim to nurture relationships and achieve sustainable growth in these markets. For example, we’ve introduced an optional 60-day payment term to support our partners. Furthermore, close dialogue helps us respond more quickly and build a humane and stable system.

You've also had particular success in the DACH market, where Humanoid is represented by the agency Showroom Mindner.

Our collaboration with Sandra Mindner is based largely on shared values—in our vision, our pace, and our understanding of growth. Together, we want to build something lasting—in a way that best reflects our brand philosophy.
