From the museum to the department store: Happy Socks is bringing its souvenir shop concept from the cultural sphere to brick-and-mortar retail. Following its launch in May 2026 at Fotografiska in Stockholm and a weekend pop-up at the Hotel Marittimo in Milan, Ludwig Beck in Munich marks the first time the concept has been introduced to an established department store. From museums to hospitality to department stores, the format demonstrates how a retail concept can be adapted to different environments and target audiences.

The focus here is less on the product and more on the opportunity to rediscover a brand. At Ludwig Beck, Happy Socks will be featuring its regular lineup in a curated display area from September 1 through 12—ranging from sneaker and crew socks to seasonal prints, gift sets, and underwear.

“Brick-and-mortar retail is becoming a media channel in its own right. It’s no longer just about selling products, but about creating discovery, relevance, and a reason to engage with the brand,” says Aida Vrazalica, Global Head of Communications & Culture Marketing at Happy Socks. The souvenir shop concept is designed to create exactly this brand experience—whether it takes place in a museum, a hotel, or a department store.”

For Ludwig Beck, the partnership is part of a strategy to continually reinvent its retail spaces with ever-changing brand worlds and limited-time concepts. “For us, this means offering our customers fresh inspiration and surprising shopping experiences in addition to our curated product selection,” explains Managing Director Sebastian Jänsich.

The Munich location thus marks the next step in the format’s evolution: what began as an eye-catching pop-up for special locations is now becoming a flexible retail tool that combines brand presentation, experience, and sales. For Happy Socks, brick-and-mortar retail is thus becoming not just a sales space, but an integral part of the brand’s communication.
