Mandatory
Another June issue is planned for Copenhagen
Mandatory aims to set a new course for the future of the menswear business in Copenhagen: Starting in June 2027, the Copenhagen-based multi-brand order platform plans to add an additional summer edition to its calendar.
The established events in January and August during Copenhagen Fashion Week are set to continue. With the new dates, the Mandatory team is responding to the changing demands of the international menswear buying calendar. “We can no longer wait for the dates to change,” explains co-founder Clara Leone. “If Mandatory and Copenhagen want to remain relevant as a trading hub for menswear, we must act now. The current August dates do not reflect the reality of menswear sales cycles, either locally or internationally.”
With the addition of the June edition, Copenhagen aims to offer an order platform that meets the scheduling needs of both brands and buyers. According to the Mandatory team, the scheduling issue has been the subject of intense discussion in recent years, but without leading to a solution. “As the only specialized ordering platform in Copenhagen, it is our job to create the strongest and most relevant business environment for brands and buyers. That starts with putting the industry’s needs first,” said Leone.
Interestingly, Mandatory actually launched two years ago with a June release date.
However, given the challenging market environment and established industry structures, the organizers decided at the time to align with the Copenhagen Fashion Week calendar. Now, Mandatory believes the time is right to take this step again. “After two years of continuous development and a solid foundation, we are ready to drive this important change forward,” says Leone. “To meet market demands, we are now introducing a June edition while maintaining our established events in January and August.”
Before finalizing the date for the premiere in June 2027, Mandatory intends to engage in dialogue with Copenhagen Fashion Week and CIFF. The goal is to find a joint solution in the industry’s best interest. If this proves impossible, the company has announced that it will proceed with the new June edition on its own. Further details on the concept and the final dates are expected to follow in the coming months.
