"Giving up is not an option"

The Jades fashion store in Düsseldorf's Breitestraße is closing. The location near the derelict construction site around the former Carschhaus no longer paid off, says Evelyn Hammerström. But there are already concrete plans for the future of Jades.

High fashion meets rock'n'roll! With this spirit, Reinhard Haase and Evelyn Hammerström have been shaking up more than just the Düsseldorf fashion retail scene since 2000. Over the years, Jades has become an institution for fashion with a glam feel, not least thanks to celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, Victoria Beckham and Georgia Mey Jagger, who have launched their denim collections at Jades. The store on Breitestrasse will close at the end of May. "The ongoing major construction sites in the immediate vicinity not only had a major impact on the shopping experience, but also put a massive strain on our operating business," explains Evelyn Hammerström. "The location was no longer economically viable." But she is looking to the future: a new Jades store with womenswear is being built on the Kö, which will reflect Jades' DNA in a new look. "Giving up is not an option for us," says Hammerström. "We look forward to seeing our community again soon in Düsseldorf, with new ideas, familiar faces and the unmistakable Jades spirit." An event is planned for the reopening as part of the Düsseldorf Fashion Days.
